Vetter Completes Third Expansion Phase of Visual Inspection and Logistics Center

German CDMO, Vetter, has finalized the third expansion phase of its Center for Visual Inspection and Logistics in Ravensburg, Germany, enhancing its capacity for quality control, storage, and logistics for pharmaceutical companies. The updated facility now includes increased storage capabilities for both refrigerated and room-temperature pharmaceuticals, advanced visual inspection systems, and improved logistics processes.

More and more of the world’s leading pharmaceutical companies trust us to reliably fill their medications. A number of these medications – some of which are lifesaving – are highly temperature-sensitive and need to be stored in a cooled environment. As the third phase of the expansion of Vetter Center for Visual Inspection and Logistics is underway, we are laying the groundwork for organic growth. Our state-of-the-art, fully automated cold storage facility will also provide additional capacity for manual and automated visual inspection.

Construction of the extension began in late 2024, with an eye on a 2028 opening. In addition to housing a larger high-bay warehouse, the 22,500-square-meter facility will be home to a stability chamber, a new company restaurant, offices, and a data center. We are investing more than €150 million to add 16,000 positions to the existing 13,000 cold storage pallet spaces. Upon completion, Vetter will have a total of 68,000 pallet positions for various temperature requirements.

Timo Usinger, Senior Vice President, Supply Chain Management, explains why our focus is primarily on cold storage: “The growing need for cold storage for many of the innovative pharmaceutical products is increasing the demand for pallet storage. As a result, the new section will be fully refrigerated. We are using the latest automation and digitalization technology, such as advanced monitoring systems and a fully automated pallet storage and retrieval.”

Though the new warehouse is a big step for Vetter, it is just one of many. We will continue to play an active role in the development of pharmaceutical storage so that our customers and patients around the world can rely on the safety of the medications that we fill.
